What is Music Therapy? Music therapy is a creative, interactive, psychological therapy based on the shared use of music and sound to develop a therapeutic relationship and address therapeutic aims.
How does it work? The possible aims of music therapy are many and will depend on each individual. Music therapy can help provide emotional support, explore creative aspects of self, promote body listening, support relational experiences and facilitate somatic awareness, co-ordination & motor control.
My approach: I have an open and flexible approach to my work which is based on humanistic principles allied with psychodynamic theory and music-focused practice.
Who do I work with? I have been a fully HCPC registered (and PVG/CRB checked) music therapist since I qualified in 2008. I have experience of working with individuals and groups both in the UK and internationally including disabled children, adults with traumatic brain injury, and persons living with dementia. I am an experienced clinical supervisor.
What happens in a session? In music therapy the aims are therapeutic but the means of achieving them usually involve shared music making or listening/receiving music. During sessions, I use various instruments and my voice to interact with clients. The music we produce together can be based on well known tunes/songs or freely improvised. Musical ability on the part of the client is not essential.
Where do I work? This varies according to each individual.
Fees from £35 per hour.
Please contact me for more details and any enquiries about clinical supervision.
